Refine your decision-making about when, why, and how to use a variety of text types including children’s literature, leveled texts, and decodable books to meet the needs of your students. Learn how to provide a “healthy balance” of text types that are engaging, culturally sustaining, and connect phonics skills with reading for meaning. In this 75 minute webinar, we will:

  • Define what is meant by “decodability” and consider how the amount of decodability varies on a continuum
  • Discuss the importance of providing children with the opportunity to read natural language texts to expand their reading processing systems by applying their decoding skills and reading for meaning
  • Examine when, why, and how to get the most out of decodable books for reading instruction
